Let’s get off on the right foot here.  I hold no grudge against any software company that has crafted a dynasty out of nothing.  The two major players are Apple and Microsoft.  In fact, for the most part, they are the ONLY players in the game.

Sure, I can argue that Linux is great, free, lightweight, and nice, but to be honest, they are just not as big as the top two contenders.

But, of course, there’s a misconception about the fight between the two.  It’s not Mac vs. PC.

The term PC is actually means Personal Computer.

Apple created the first of these for home use in the heyday of the electronic/computer hobby, to get the computer out of the corporations and into the homes, where it could be useful to the “common folk”.  They bundled the hardware with their own operating system, so the consumer didn’t have to worry about buying the software separately.

Microsoft, other than a few concept models, never made a dedicated hardware for their operating systems.  They’ve only made software, and a few bits of attachment hardware.  Windows is a good operating system too!  It runs on just about any hardware you’ve got!  Only on a few exceptions will Windows not run!

So the real fight, boiled down to the meaty bones, is Mac (the hardware + the operating system) vs. Windows (the operating system).
